My adobe reader suddenly changed about 6 months ago to an online version.

My adobe reader suddenly changed about 6 months ago to an online version.  I don't think I updated anything or clicked anything, but I was used to the old version.  The new version is slower, less user friendly, and keeps trying to make me pay.  Did I accidently download a different software?  Did the software change to online for everyone, or did I click on something?  Can I remove the cloud connection somehow and just have it on my computer locally like it used to be?
