No longer able to open in Desktop App with Adobe Readet

When opening a cloud based document, opening to desktop app no longer works. In some cases, the option is not there, regardless of having the extension or not. If the option to "open in desktop app" does appear (this is specific to me. I am opening it from another source that shares it to me), then hitting it sends you to adobe creative cloud website prompting you to purchase the subscription.

If you open a pdf in chrome using the extension, the option for "open in desktop" actually works without issue. the only time this is happening is if a document is primarily on the adobe document cloud. It is unable to be opened to the desktop app. However,  if you are in the desktop app you can select cloud based files from recent, allowing you to open them. So, we can open the document this way, as a workaround, in the desktop version as well as open the document in the cloud. Why is there no way to make this transition of cloud app to desktop app if the functionality for both already exists?

Hi @verydisappointedandsad

Hope you are doing well.

As far as we understand from your description, you are referring to Document Cloud files here. Is that correct?

You are a user of Acrobat Reader, which is freeware. When opening a file on Chrome (not sure if you are using the Acrobat Chrome extension or Chrome's inbuilt pdf viewer), it redirects you to your desktop application, as Reader is set to the default PDF viewer of your system.

Similarly, when the file is viewed on Acrobat online, formally known as Document Cloud web, "Open in Desktop" redirects it to the Acrobat app because all the web tools are accessible only through the Acrobat desktop app.  This is how it's designed, or you can say it's a design behavior.

Thanks,
