No NPAPI in "Programs" but embedded media plays

I've got an interesting one!

On all but one of the workstations where NPAPI has been removed, Reader XI is rightly unable to play embedded media.  This one seat, however, still plays embedded media just fine, even though no NPAPI reflects as installed in the Programs listing, in an Adobe flash scan, nor in a precursory view of the registry.

Any idea what could be causing this?  I'm guessing I could sledgehammer the problem with repeated full un-re-installs.  But I'd really like to learn specifically what may be going on.
