Open PDF

When I visit websites offering information in pdf form, clicking on the icon has always opened the pdf for viewing before I decide to save the information.  Now when I try to open these pdf's I am first asked to to save the file.  I don't want to have to save every file I click on without seeing the information first.

Can I go back to 'open first' status or has something changed in Reader?

Reader hasn't changed.  But your browser probably has.  Firefox recently stopped supporting plugins that had formerly launched helper apps directly inside the browser window.

Mozilla to Drop Support for All NPAPI Plugins in Firefox 52, Except Flash

Firefox ships with it's own scaled down version of a PDF reader now which seems to work OK for me on most things.  But it's not too swift for fillable forms, etc...   I prefer to download and open PDFs in Acrobat.  It's a better user experience.  If I don't need to keep it,  I delete it from my Downloads folder.

    Nancy,

Thanks for your reply.  I tried Internet Explorer and it worked fine.  It offers me a choice - open or save.  I had been using IE but problems forced me to Firefox.  Google Chrome also wants to save rather than offer a choice.

    Back to IE!?!?

Eventually ALL browsers will phase out ALL plugins because 3rd party plugins pose so many security headaches.

I guess moving to Canada won't help.
