Question

Opening a document

Someone please tell me:  what is a "document open password"?  I cannot open a document sent to me by Geek Squad (I think) because I don't have a password to open it.  What is this stuff?  And OBTW - why is this stuff so incredibly complex?  Can we not simply our lives a little here?

It's only as complex as the person that created the file makes it.

If it is asking for a file open password, that means Geek Squad has added that password for whatever reason. You would need to contact them and get it or have them send an unprotected document to you.

That makes sense.  But the world is more complex than it needs to be.  Why send me something if they know I cannot open it?  Thanks for the tip – I will get in touch with them and ask for a password to open it.  I will also ask they don’t add this complexity in the future.

I want my rotary phone back!

Hard to say. Maybe it contains sensitive information (not that it's hard for someone that really wants it to get it), Maybe it was an accident or maybe just some silly corporate policy that tells them they have to do it.

    Good luck.
