Opening anything

Help...Why is it every time I open something it saves it to my desktop? It saves it then opens it the regular way...How can I stop this? My desktop is getting full of stuff I don't want to keep. Thanks for any help you can supply me with.

What are you saving FROM? I imagine it's most likely a browser, like Chrome or Edge? Also, Mac or Windows?

Thanks for responding - I just click on what I want to open and I get a screen asking me to "save" before it opens. I have to save it otherwise I can't open it. Very frustrating cause my desktop is getting loaded.

When you use a browser it is a setting of the browser.
