Question

Pasting images into PDFs results in excessively large images

I want to copy an image from one PDF document to another, but Acrobat does not preserve its original size. Instead, the pasted image is at least twice as large as expected.

The problem occurs regardless of how I copy the image. It makes no difference whether I use the Snapshot tool in Acrobat Reader or copy the image from Photoshop or Paint.

I have also tried scaling down the image in Photoshop before copying it, but Acrobat still pastes it at the same excessively large size. This suggests that the problem is not with the source image itself, but with how Acrobat handles pasted images.

Why can't I control the size of a pasted image? I should be able to paste an image at its intended size or specify its dimensions, rather than having Acrobat impose an excessively large, seemingly fixed size.

Please provide a way to control the size of pasted images or fix this behaviour. As it stands, copying and pasting images into PDFs is unnecessarily frustrating and impractical.

Hi @Exquisite_Laughterb7fd,

Thank you for sharing your experience. We understand how frustrating it can be when pasted images appear much larger than expected, especially after you've already tried resizing them in Photoshop and Paint.

In Acrobat, you can resize and reposition images using the PDF editing tools. We'd recommend trying the following to see if it helps.

Try adding and resizing the Image directly in Acrobat:

  1. Open the destination PDF in Acrobat.

  2. Select Edit from the global bar.

  3. In the Edit pane, select Image> Choose Image.

  4. Select the Image saved on your computer and click Open.

  5. Click where you want to place the Image.

  6. Drag the bounding box handles to adjust its size, and reposition it as needed.

  7. Save the PDF and check whether the Image retains the adjusted size.

You can find more details here: Add images to PDFs in Acrobat.

A few details would help us investigate further:

  • Are you using the free Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro?

  • Which operating system and Acrobat version are you using?

  • Does the Image appear oversized only when pasted using Ctrl/Cmd + V, or does the same happen when adding it through the Edit tool?

These details will help us better understand the behavior you're experiencing.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and sharing your feedback about image sizing. Please let us know what you find, and we'll be happy to assist further.

Thanks,
^BS
