PDF Error when sent via e-mail

I have had trouble sending PDFs via e-mail.  The PDF is fine when opened/viewed/edited on my computer but the person I send it to is unable to view it.  This is the message they receive when they try to open the attachment:

It has happened to multiple recipients attempting to open the attachment on both Macs and PCs.
