Question

PDF files crash in Reader but not Acrobat

Hello,
One of our annual publications is large series of pdf documents that contain georeferenced and layer information. Because of this, the files are very large. We provide reduced sized pdfs of the same publication as well.

The documents open for users with Adobe Acrobat, but crash for users within only Adobe Reader. I have read a few helps that suggest driver installs and repairs - but not sure if this makes sense due to the fact that Acrobat has no troubles, whereas Reader does.

Any recommendations or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi there

We are sorry for the trouble. As described above, PDF file crashes with Reader and works fine in Acrobat DC

Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC being used to view the PDF file? To check the version of the application please use the help article (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html)

Make sure you have the latest version 19.21.20056 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates and see if that works for you.

Also please try top open a different PDF file in Acrobat Reader and see if it still crashes.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards

Amal
