Hello @petra_4367

Thank you for sharing the details. Is it happening with all the PDFs, or is it specific to one type of PDF? Can you please post the screenshot of the error message you are getting?

For testing purposes, can you open the PDF in any browser and check?

Also, for testing purposes only, turn off the enhanced security one and check the workflow.

  • Open Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Go to Menu > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)
  • Uncheck:
    • Enable Protected Mode at startup
  • Click OK and restart Reader

Also, check which Outlook you’re using. Switch back to Classic Outlook for Windows and see if you still get the error message.

If it’s happening with all the PDFs, then can you please do a screen recording, share a sample PDF file through which you are able to reproduce the issue, capture the logs from the affected machine, the current version of Outlook, and the OS details, and share them with us for further investigations.

To capture the logs, please refer to this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-diagnostics.html

Regards,

Anand Sri.

Hello @petra_4367

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. We’re sorry for the trouble you had.

Please try the suggestion and solution from this community thread discussing a similar issue:

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: Version: 26.001.21431. Planned update, Apr 14, 2026. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

  • In Outlook, right‑click the PDF attachment
  • Select Save As and save it to your desktop
  • Open the saved file directly in Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • If the PDF opens normally, the issue lies with Outlook, not Acrobat

Ensure that Outlook and other Microsoft apps are updated to the latest available build.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Anand Sri.
