Hello,

After the recent update my PDF files are taking too much time to open, which is very frustrating.

Could someone please help me with resolving this issue.

Thank You,

IJ

    Hi Inderj92320616,

Could you please confirm which operating system you are using, is it windows or mac?

Or the application installed to open the pdf is it Adobe Reader DC or Adobe Acrobat DC?

After updating the application have you rebooted computer? if not then please try once.

Please reset the preferences of Adobe Acrobat by going to the location mentioned below-

    Windows-

    • Quit Acrobat.
    • In Windows Explorer, go to the Preferences folder:
    • (Windows 7 or higher) C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\[version]
    • Move the Preferences folder to another location (for example, C:\Temp).
    • Restart Acrobat.

    Mac-

    • Quit Acrobat.
    • Drag the following files from the Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences folder to the Desktop:
    • Acrobat WebCapture Cookies
    1. com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist or com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro_x86_9.0.plist
    2. Acrobat Distiller Prefs and com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist (if you are troubleshooting an issue with Distiller)
    3. The Acrobat folder, which contains preferences for forms (MRUFormsList), collaboration (OfflineDocs), and color settings (AcrobatColor Settings.csf)
    • Restart Acrobat

Try the steps mentioned above and see if that helps improving the performance.

let us know if that helps.

    Regards,

    Akanchha

    Hello Akanchha,

I am using Windows 7 operating system and the version installed in my laptop is Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. I've followed the steps mentioned above but still facing the same issue, PDF is still taking a few seconds to open after double clicking.

Please let me know if there is any other way to resolve this issue.

    Regards,

    Inder

    Hi Inderj92320616,

Do you see any improvement or is it still taking so much time to open the document?  as mentioned, if its taking few seconds then it doesn't seems to be a performance issue.

As a workaround I would suggest you to try the steps mentioned below-

    • Open Acrobat go to Edit>Preferences and go to the "Documents" category. Set the number of files in the recently used list to 1 (this will remove all your files that you have recently used from that list). If this fixes your problem, then there may be something wrong with one of the files that you've recently used (e.g. a network drive no longer being available).
    • Open Acrobat go to Edit>Preferences and go to the "Security (Enhanced)" category and set "Protected View" to "Off" and uncheck "Enable Enhanced Security" (For testing purpose)

Note- Once you you turn the Protected view off you need to turn it ON after testing to check whether it makes any improvement or not.

(as its not recommended to keep the Protected view and Enhanced security off)
