"Please select an authentication system to verify your identity"

I am running Reader on a Mac. Every time I try to open a document, I get the message above which refers to an old corporate account for a company I no longer work for. Unfortunately, I need the company issued smart card to complete the authentication, which I no longer have. I have tried reinstalling Reader but to no avail. I am not allowed to access any files or Reader settings until I can get past that screen - which I can't. Any suggestions?
