Positioning screwy when making a booklet
I am trying to print this very straightforward book with the Acrobat Reader print booklet feature.

The words are not positioned on the two sides of a page correctly. What goes on one side should be printed on the same section of paper as what goes on the other side, but the two are not coincident and the deviation is not even consistent between attempts. If I print a different document to a different printer without reinstalling Reader that seems to break it. Reinstalling Reader sometimes gets it to work but not always.
It is composed with Google docs in a standard 5.5 x 8.5 page. The left and right margins are equal.
I'm also confused about the cover. It is also composed with Google Docs on a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet. So I expect that nothing should change when I switch between Fit and Actual Size but that's not the case. Fit shrinks the document a little bit.
I'm printing to a HP Laserjet 1200 loaded with standard 8.5 x 11 paper. My Macbook Pro runs OSX 10.13.4 and I have Acrobat Reader DC 2017.009.20044
