Question

Read aloud not following the reading order

I have a PDF giving me issues when I read aloud. In In Design: I  tagged the elements properly, have the articles and structure set up in the correct order, set the reading order in In Design and exported as Interactive PDF.

When I open the  PDF in Acrobat, I checked the reading order and the boxes are numbered correctly (using Tools> Accessibility>Reading Order).

When it reads, it reads out of order. This is what it should be doing, but it is reading left to right instead:

1

2 - 5 - 8

3 - 6 - 9

4 - 7 - 10

11

(I've tried every reading order option in acrobat to troubleshoot, same issue)

Thanks for any help!

Hi SalterMitchell,

As per the issue description mentioned above, you have exported an InDesign file as a pdf with the reading order set in Indesign but when opened in Acrobat, it doesn't read in order, is that correct?

Would it be possible if you can share the pdf file with us? We would like to replicate the issue at our end. You can share the link for the file here in the forums using Adobe's Send and Track: https://cloud.acrobat.com/send

(1) Click Add files > choose files from my computer

(2) Select the file > create link. You can copy paste the link here in the forums.

Also, let us know the version of Acrobat you have on the machine. To check the version: Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

And, the operating system installed on the machine?

Thanks,
Shivam
