Read Aloud is not speaking "ti" and"fi". It puts a blank where these should be spoken.

Release 2024.002.20759 (64 bit) on Windows 10.

Below is a selection of works not spoken properly.

  • writing
  • instruction
  • application
  • information
  • duties

That's probably because they are ligatures, which are special characters that contain two letters (a leftover from the old physical font days). See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligature_(writing)

If not encoded properly, such characters will break up a word and prevent the TTS engine from reading it correctly.

You should report this issue to the other of the file and ask them to fix it.

Hi Roy37487395qtph,

Thank you for reaching out.

Please share the PDF on which you use the read-out-loud feature. Also, confirm if you experienced this behavior with all the files.

We will get this checked once we have the file.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Please see attached.

I extracted a representative section of text into a new Word document, and created a PDF file from that Word document. As you listen to the attached doucument, you will discover that text in the boxes does note read correctly. Text outside the boxes reads correctly.

Thx

As I suspected, the ligatures are not encoded properly. You can clearly see it if you double-click the word "Application" just under the images on page 1. You'll notice it only selects part of the word, and if you manually select the full text and copy it elsewhere it comes out broken:

Applica on for or renewal of individual licence

The "ti" ligature is missing, and a space is entered in its place.
