Reader background processes left behind

Task manager has for several weeks now been showing me several processes of AcroRd32.exe left behind after closing Reader. Right now - I restarted my PC 3 days ago, it's showing me 135 Reader processes. I have not even opened that many PDFs in the entire last week let alone since the last time I opened Reader this morning. I usually close reader when I am done with a specific document.

If I right-click and go to File Location, it attempts to open C:\Config.Msi

Is it a known issue ? I did the May update but it didn't resolve it.
