Reader DC fails and freezes on screen

I am using Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit and trying to access pdf files saved on my hard drive. I have tried opening several files which I know worked previously. When I open Reader DC, it crashes and gives the following windows message:  Adobe Acrobat Reader DC has stopped working
I am unable to close the program either through the pop up box or with Win Task Manger-Applications-End Task. To get Reader to close, I have to go to Processes and end the process tree.

I followed your intermittent crash on Windows procedure but no luck.
1. I tried to update, but it was already updated to version 2019.008.20071.
2. I cannot repair because the program crashes before repair completes.

3. Protected view was already turned off. I verified this.

4. I attempted to run Distiller, but it was not found on my pc.

5. Another user account doesn't work either.
6. Restarted system and repeated steps 1-5. Reader DC still crashing.
7. After these unsuccessful attempts, I uninstalled, redownloaded, and reinstalled the program.
8. It crashed yet again, so I repeated steps 1-6.

9. Then, I tried running it as administrator with the same results.

There is no report button in the error box, but I can expand problem details to get the following information:

I've had windows 7 home premium for many year and never had acrobat reader update automatically. Couple of weeks ago, I see a message stating that acrobat had finished updating to Acrobat DC. Since than the program freezes up ASA any file is opened. Tried manually to look for any updated...windows come back with no updates found. Is there any way to find previous version of the reader or anything else I can do to fix this problem?
