Reader DC mouse is black upper left corner of small black square

The mouse on 2 different systems has changed to a black pointer in the upper left corner of a small black square of about 3/8 of an inch.  Looking at all the posts about a similar issue I have tried to resolve this and nothing has worked. 

The things tried are:

Delete the icon cach file located in appdata.  Did this twice with Reader closed and then restarted.  Did not fix.

Updated video driver.  Did not fix.

Uninstalled using the cleaner removal tool for actobat and reader from adobe and then reinstalled using the reader dc distribution.  This did not fix the issue.  Checked for updates after this.  Update found and installed, mouse unchanged.

Tried the repair, which failed to fix issue.

Used Edit/preferences to check that the use of icons in windows explorer was unchecked.

Can someone please help me fix this?
