Reader DC Symbology changing for different viewers.

Question

My boss is trying to share a document with me with symbology and it is not dispalying properly. The symbology should be astericks* or dots but it displaying as these symbols (attached). Others have had trouble viewing these documents as well. Is this an issue with my boss having a different text pack or is there a setting I could change to view these?

I've moved this from the poorly named Community Help forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Acrobat Reader forum so that proper help can be offered.
