Question

Reader opens links in PDF using Edge and not the default browser

OK, this is getting no response at all from Adobe, so I am going to ask this question again as, while one of the 2 other posts on this subject says “answered” it is NOT answered. So, I am going to open a 3rd post on this subject to see if someone at Adobe will care to comment.

ALL of the links in Reader open in Edge and not the default browser (Chrome in my case). When I say all, I mean even the help links like the link I opened to get to this forum (yes, I’m in edge now just trying to get the real answer) and the one in the image below:

And yes, I have tried EVERYTHING referenced in all the attempts to fix this when you Google the issue. NOTHING fixes this “bug”, but surely someone out there knows how to fix this so we can all get on with life.

Thanks - John

@JHMiller3 thanks for posting. Do you have the Adobe Reader Chrome extension installed? Please see https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/open-in-acrobat-reader-from-chrome.html for details on how to install and activate the extension.

Where are you opening the PDF files from? Are they in Chrome, Edge, or Windows Explorer? For information on how to configure the auto-open options for Chrome and Edge, see https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/auto-open-pdfs.html.

Hello and thanks for reaching out. Yes, the Chrome extension is installed and enabled. The PDF is open in Acrobat Reader and I open it by double-clicking on the file in Windows Explorer. This is not an auto-open situation in the browser. The PDF is on my computer and it is opening in Reader.

But that isn’t the entire issue as ANY links in Reader (like those links in “Preferences”) will open Edge as opposed to the default browser.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the update, @JHMiller3 . So when you open hyperlinks in PDF files in Adobe Reader, they open in Edge instead of Chrome? Is that correct?

Do hyperlinks launch Chrome to view the links in other applications? What version of Windows are you using Adobe Reader on?
