Screen Resolution Changes when using Adobe Reader XI in Windows 8, 64-bit

I just got a new PC running Windows 8, 64-bit, and I installed Adobe Reader XI.  Whenever I open a PDF document, the screen resolution changes so that the display is huge.  In fact, I can only see about 10% of the page, which makes it unreadable.  When I close the PDF document, the screen resolution goes back to normal and everything is fine.  This happens if I open a file that I've already downloaded, or if I click a PDF link in a browser (the whole browser display is huge), and it occurs both in IE and Google Chrome.  I have no other issues with display in either browser, so it must be a compability issue with Adobe Reader XI and Windows 8, 64-bit.  Please help.  Thank you.

I just had this issue, and somehow the compatibility settings got changed to force Acrobat to run in 600x480 resolution.

Navigate to the Acrobat or Reader "Program Files" folder. (Usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0 or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0).

Right-click the appropriate application file and click "Properties" (AcroRD32 or something similar depending on the program).

Click the tab at the top that says "Compatibility"

Uncheck the box that says "Run in 640x480 screen resolution"

Click "Apply" in the bottom right.

Done!

Thank you! That was my exact problem. I have no idea how that setting got enabled, this was a brand new computer which worked with adobe reader for a few days and the resolution change began.

I just changed to laptop with Windows 8.1 and Adobe Reader 11.0.5 a dialog box and the Panel shrinks. The screen is changed, this is the case with two other software from Adobe: Lightroom 3.6 and Photoshop CS5.

What is the solution?

When the PDF opens, does it have a toolbar along the top saying ".... Adobe Reader", menus and so forth? Or does it just take over the whole screen with no borders at all?

If I open a "stand alone" PDF file, I have the "Adobe Reader" title, drop-down menus and such.  If I click on a PDF link in a browser (IE or Google Chrome), the whole browser is huge.  It is the screen resolution that changes, NOT the zoom level.  If you lower the screen resolution WAY down in Windows, everything is HUGE, if you know what I mean.  That is what is happening here with Adobe Reader.  I was able to affect a "work-around" by downloading a third-party PDF viewer, and associating PDF files with the new program, but it is not the solution I'm looking for.  Thank you for your input.

My Dad has the same issue with Adobe Reader (10 and 11) on his Windows 7, 64 bit PC. If you open Adobe Reader the desk top color is distorted and the resolition changes. but returns to normal when you close it.

Found some one else who has this problem and this is their screen shot that looks like my Dad's.

I have the same system and Adobe Reader (10 and 11) work fine on my PC.

A work around was we downloaded 'Foxit' PDF reader and set it as default and no more problem.  Still would like to figure out why Adobe Reader failed.

Did you find the problem and if so could you post it.

Thanks
