Search and cut&paste not working

Hello

M search (control-key + F) does not able to find anything within a document.

I am sure my doc is displayed as characters because I can select anything I choose via the mouse.

I can copy and paste but the pasted characters only display as rectangles.

This is a downloaded help-file from a reputable company.

Thanks

Correct answer Test Screen Name

These are not restrictions or a deliberate policy. Some software, some fonts, make files this way. It is almost never done deliberately (sometimes people like lawyers seek to do it to make disclosure expensive, but ironically they find it very difficult to do). This is why you should report the issue to the PDF maker.

The two problems (no copy/paste and no search) are one problem. The reputability of the company is not at issue, many PDF files are this way. However, maybe a reputable company will take your concerns seriously and look at improving the usability of the files they make for you, especially if it is supposed to be a help file.

Absolutely, that's why I posted in the same thread.

I wonder why.  I assume it is more trouble to create a file with these restrictions.  And (as you say) it is less use to the recipient.

Thanks for replies.
