Question

Search for complex naming structures in Acrobat Reader

Hello all,

I am wondering if there is a way in Adobe reader(pro or standard) to search for naming structures. I would like to use this to make it easier to anylise contracts with a lot of clauses that are all different but are similarly structured. An example: I have clause 123.123-1234 and 123.124-6789, could I search for the structure xxx.xxx-xxxx and have it find all clauses structures that way?

This is actually possible using a custom-made script, even in the free Reader, but such scripts are limited in the amount of text they can process before becoming very slow and even causing the application to freeze. How large are your files (in terms of pages), typically?

Do you know what a script like that would look like? And it varies, anywhere from 5-50 pages.

This is something I could create for you, but it will be for a fee, as it's not a trivial task.

You can contact me privately (click my username and then on Send a Message) to discuss it further.

May be possible with the redaction tool of Acrobat Pro.

Hi andrew30047895t4be,

Thank you for reaching out.

The search workflow you are looking for is not possible in Adobe Acrobat/ Reader application. You may refer to the following help document on how the search feature in Acrobat works: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/searching-pdfs.html

Check if that information helps.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
