Question

Sign & Fill not a true Electronic Signature?

When I use "Fill & Sign" and apply a signature and then save the file and then open it in Adobe Reader, no signatures are detected. Also, when I open the document in other PDF applications, no signatures are detected even though I can see it. In fact "no signatures are detected" is displayed when the document is opened in PDF applications. If I use something like DocuSign, adobe and everyone else recognizes that there are signatures, but not when I use Adobe Readers own "Fill & Sign". It locks the file from editing though, but that appears to be it. Any help would be much appreciated as I am looking for an ESIGN and UETA compliant solution.

In Acrobat Reader use Tools > Certificates

The key point about digital signatures isn't that you "see" them at all. The stuff on the page is of no importance, and I think it was a mistake to show anything at all. Unfortunately, many people believe what is on the page, though it could be faked in seconds.

Confusingly, Adobe use "electronic signature" to mean something else entirely - a scribble or stamp on the page, of no compliance value at all. Fill and sign says " type, draw, or insert an image of your handwritten signature or initials" none of which is of value except in paper-analogues. The clue is that you aren't asked for a certificate or identity to do it.
