Since Chrome v120, PDFs downloaded in Chrome hand off to Acrobat and auto Open. How do I stop this?

Go to a website with a PDF to download.

Click Save as , find place on desktop to downlad it.

PDf downloads, and then opens up Acrobat Reader to view.

I just want it to download and save and I will look at it later.

I have:

Looked in Chrome settings and I have "open PDFs in Chrome" selected.

I have Acrobat as my default app for PDFs, but It is not set in Internet Settings to be the default for PDFs

I even tried changing Chrome to be the default app for PDFs, and it still auto loaunched Acrobat and

opened the PDF.

Short of removing Acrobat, what elese could stop this behavior from being the default?

This is malware-like behaviour. Actually astonishing for Adobe to try and pull this off. Think I'm going to uninstall Adobe immediately and find a free open source alternative.

Hey @terryj11302213
You can turn off this feature via preferences. Kindly un-check below preference from the preferences dialog(ctrl+k / cmd+k).

Preferences -> General -> Open PDFs automatically in Reader when they are downloaded in Chrome browser

Kushagr, how does Adobe know when I'm downloading files? There's no Chrome extension. I've disabled all services knowing associated with Adobe. Adobe Reader is closed. I'm treating it like malware because you seem to have hijacked my system to do something I did not ask you to do.

Did you check the settings in Chrome? If nobody tells Acrobat to start and open that file, then Acrobat won't know about this.
