    Hello @stevenlash

I hope you are doing well, and thank you for reaching out. We’re sorry for the trouble you had.

Is it happening with specific PDF files, or with all PDF files above 100 Mb?

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: Version: 25.001.21223 Planned update. Feb 17, 2026. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

To check the available supported version of Acrobat Reader, please see this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/reader/system-requirements.html

Please note that with Windows 8, you can use Acrobat Reader 32-bit.

For testing purposes, while viewing PDF files, please Disable Protected Mode in Acrobat Reader’s Preferences.

    • Go to Menu > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)
    • Uncheck:
      • Enable Protected Mode at startup
      • Enable Enhanced Security
    • Click OK
    • Restart Acrobat Reader and reopen the file.
    • Please enable the security settings after the test.

Save the PDF files locally and then open them in Acrobat Reader.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.
