Spaces marked as untagged content

Yes, blank or decorative content should usually be handled as artifact content.

1. Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro.

2. Open the accessibility/tagging tools from All Tools > Prepare for Accessibility, and inspect the item flagged as untagged.

3. If the highlighted item is only blank space or decorative content, mark it as an artifact.

4. If it conveys meaning, tag it correctly instead.

5. Rerun the accessibility check.

6. Repeat for any remaining real content flagged by the checker.

You might want to try the steps shared below:

1. Open the Tags pane (View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Tags).

2. Then open the Content pane (View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Content).

3. Find and right-click the untagged content in the Content pane.

4. Select “Create Artifact”.

5. Choose Type as "Background" (or appropriate), and click OK.
