Question

Starts well, then it doesn't work anymore

Today, I started reading a book I have to read for school. While painting some sentences, the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (installed five days ago in the netbook I was given by the government) started to have problems. The tool bar which is upside the screen turned grey, and Acrobat didn't answer anymore. I pressed "Alt + F4" trying to close the program, but instead an invisible window (of the program, I assume) appeared with no text one second and dissapeared. The non-responsing PDF was still there, and I tried three more times. Every time, this invisible window came in and dissapeared in a couple of seconds. I had to press "Ctrl + Alt + Supr" and open the task manager to close the program. Then, I opened again the PDF because I was afraid of losing my notes. Some where there, but the latest didn't. I kept reading and painting, but some minutes after the program started to not answer. One more time, the upside bar was grey. One more time, the invisible window appeared and dissapeared. One more time, I had to use the computer's task manager. One more time, I lost the latest notes I've made. I tried again after ten minutes, and... surprise! It didn't work as it must do! How can you help me? I have to read PDFs every week, so...

Thank you.

NOTE: I looked for new versions in "Help", but it doesn't open anything.

    Hi alejog1002,

As I was able to understand the issue, Acrobat Reader stops responding when trying to highlight the text in the pdf, is that correct?

Please try troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

1- Check for Updates- launch Reader>click Help>select Check for Updates

2- If that doesn't work, try resetting preferences for Reader. Follow the steps given in the following link on: How to reset Acrobat Preference settings to default.

What is the version of Acrobat Reader installed on the machine?

You may refer to this link on how to: Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

And, the Operating System installed on the machine-Windows/Mac?

Have you tried highlighting other pdfs?

    Awaiting your response.

    Shivam

    Yes.

Troubleshooting 1: "There are no updates available".

Troubleshooting 2: "You aren't allowed to check this link. Try talking to who sent you the link."

    Adobe Version: 2017.009.20044

    I'm using Windows.

No, at the moment it's the only one I have to. It's the first time I use the highlighting tool.

    Thanks for providing the info.

Try following the below mentioned steps to reset preferences for Reader:

    Close Acrobat Reader.

(ii) Go to C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\DC (If "AppData" folder is not visible under your user name, press and hold Windows key and press R on your keyboard, type %appdata% in run dialogue box>hit enter>select Adobe folder from the list).

(iii) Move the entire DC folder to some other location like temp folder (To view temp folder, type temp in the run dialogue box then press enter).

(iv) Restart Reader and try again.
