Question

State tax filing compliance

I have Acrobat Reader DC, which worked perfectly well for the IRS individual tax filing I needed to do, but every year I have a problem with NYS, my home state, when it comes to tax filing.  Their website pop up states that I must get Adobe at least version 11.  When I look at purchasing it, the choices are too confusing.  It appears that I have the option to buy what I already have.  I don't think I paid for Acrobat Reader DC but don't remember for sure.

    Hi Karenot,

As you are trying to fill the online form, please download the form to a local location on your machine.

Then go to the location where you have saved the PDF and open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC from there.

Check if you can open and fill the form without any issue.

If you still experience the issue, please share the screenshot of the exact message you get.

To add the screenshot here, please use the insert icon provided in the reply window as shown below:

Once you click on this icon, you get a small window.

Click on Insert Image and then browse the location where you have saved the screenshot file.

Select the file and click on Open > Insert Image.

We will be waiting for your response.

Let us know if you need any help.

    Regards,

    Meenakshi

You don't need to buy anything. All versions of Reader are free. Where do you see this error message? Does it prevent you from actually opening the file? Reader DC is a higher version than XI (11), so it should work there, although the DC version does have some annoying bugs, especially when it comes to LCD forms.

Yes the Stupid State's pop-up screen (not a window, the entire computer screen) does prevent use of their auto-fill forms and they make it difficult to find the old fashioned "paper" forms.  (They want the public to use auto-fill).

    Thank you for your reply.
