Still unable to print using ie11 adobe plugin, w10 2004/20H2

I have users that are still encountering the issue that has been happening with the adobe plug in and ie11 since May. Clicking the print option on the on-screen adobe toolbar of an open PDF in ie11 results in nothing happening. This is affecting users on the 2004 and the 20H2 update. The users are running the newest version of Adobe Reader as well.

  • Disabling the plugin is not an option. Although it is a workaround for printing pdfs from ie11, we have a program that uses embedded adobe printing functions I guess, and users can not print from the program even with the plugin disabled(which makes sense as the plugin would only affect ie11).

  • Disabling protected mode at startup in adobe settings is absolutely not an option. We should not have to disable default security settings in order for basic functions to work properly. I saw some people stating on similar posts that this setting was not enabled by default in prior versions of Windows, however I have multiple machines running prior versions of Windows that did in fact have this setting enabled by default.

  • Switching the default viewer to edge/chrome is not an option either due to compatability issues with some websites/programs.

Is there any progress on this issue yet? The only true workaround so far for us was to rollback affected users and prevent their PCs from updating to 2004, which is obviously not possible forever.

Hi There,

The issue is fixed with the latest Acrobat relase.

Please upgrade the same to the latest build (Feb 2021), the same would work for Windows 2004 and Windows 20H2 as well.

Please do let us know, if anything else is required from our end.

Is this fix listed as bug fix anywhere in release notes online?

Does this fix apply to both continuous and classic track reader?

Hi There,

Thanks for reporting the issue here.

The issue been faced at your end is from Microsoft's end; we have raised a concern sonetimes back and they're working on the same. The issue is only reproducible for Adobe Reader and only with Protected Mode ON for online PDF opened in IE browser.

As of now action item is from Microsoft's end only. Until then we can either switch to Acrobat Pro or turn off Protected Mode, we'll let you know as Microsoft provides an update for issue with Windows 2004.
