Suddenly unable to print PDF files

At long last!!!!!  

My problem is that until yesterday morning I was able to print out PDF files on my apple iMac.   Suddenly, with out any warning from Adobe, it doesn't.  Every other program/app prints out perfectly including programms like Sibelius.   When I do try to print out a PDF file the printer icon appears on the dock for about 1 second and disappears!  I have been in touch with HP, and Apple, and Adobe and now all this obfuscation to do something that I would have thought in the 21st. century ought to be very simple (like download an upgrade!!!)
