Question

The correct Acrobat password won't let me edit or print to PDF

I added a password to an Adobe Acrobat document which works to open the document, as intended, but the same password will not allow me to edit or print (to PDF) the document. I only created this one password. So what's going on? Why is Acrobat not accepting the one and only password I created when it uses that password to OPEN the document but refuses the password for EDITING or PRINTING?

You’ve posted this in the “Acrobat Reader” space, so I assume your Acrobat instance is an Acrobat Reader. In that case please be aware that Acrobat Reader usually does not allow editing of a document.

I posted it here because I found similar posts about this problem here.

I have Adobe Creative Cloud and can open my document in Acrobat using my password that I created.  But when I open my document with my password in Acrobat and click on EDIT, it doesn't tell me that “Reader won’t allow any to edit this,” it asks for the password again and tells me that it’s a secured document.   I clearly have the password or it wouldn’t have opened in the first place.  So what’s the problem here?

    Acrobat Pro has two passwords:

    • Open
    • Edit

When you use the Open PW, you can open, but not edit if the document is locked for editing.

When you use the Edit PW, you can open as well as edit. You’ll need to use the Edit PW.

As Mike said, you cannot do this in Reader where you posted. Acrobat has a separate forum.
