Thumbnail Previews

Can anyone help me figure out how to turn off thumbnail previews for PDF files? I'm running W10 and just upgraded from Adobe Reader XI to DC. Prior to updating, pdf files on my desktop showed the adobe icon and nothing else. Now, they show a preview of the pdf document with the adobe icon in the bottom right corner. I've attached a screenshot to show what I am talking about.

 

I've tried changing the option under preferences -> general that says enable PDF thumbnails in Windows Explorer, but it does not seem to have any effect on the icons on my desktop. I'm aware that I could turn off file previews globally, but I would really prefer that just the PDF files did not show a preview.

You are a lucky guy, some of us just have black square icons instead of a preview!
