Unable to open document using Adobe reader

Doing a degree with Open University, needed to read document which needed Acrobat, installed same but when I click on document it takes me to Acrobat home page telling me to download reader which I already have. Not sure what I have done wrong?

Hi

After downloading the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, it needs to be installed. If you haven't done that, you will find the installation files in your Downloads folder. Can you open Reader directly? Be sure you downloaded from here:

https://get.adobe.com/reader/

If you need help installing, we need your OS and version.
