Unable to open pdfs with Acrobat Reader without signing in

I've always been able to open pdfs to read but now am being asked to sign in every time I try to open one with the free adobe reader. I uninstalled and re-installed - same issue. Any ideas?

    What is the exact version of Acrobat, what is your OS (also the exact version)?

    Adobe 23.006.20360  

    Don't know how to find the answer to the second one, it's Windows 10 updated to latest update on 3/11
