Unable to select area to find scale used

Reader DC version: 20.012.20041.1044

in previous versions in measuring tool mode i could select a measured area and I could see the total area and the scale that had been used. Now in measuring mode i can't select the box (the cursor does not turn to a pointer cursor).  I can select the box in comment mode and see the total measurement but not the scale used.
