Update error messages

Win 10 Pro 22H2 (64-bit) desktop PC, Windows Security (Defender), fully up-to-date...

 

Had old version of Reader from 2021 (21.xxx..xxxxx) installed and tried to install the latest update v22.003.20263. Launched the updater from inside Reader, and got error message 1603 from the installer saying the version already installed is newer than the one being installed. How can that be?

 

Decided to uninstall the existing version using Revo Uninstaller which was successful. Then went to the site using Firefox v106.0.2, and downloaded the updater again. Launched it and got error 1406, cannot write value to key.

 

How do I fix this?

Sorry for the delay in response to your issue.

In the first message shared above, that error appears due to a missing update for Universal C Runtime in Windows.

Since you haven't been able to install it successfully yet.

Please try this:

Run this cleaner tool to remove the existing installer and application’s files traces:

https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html

Download the Acrobat installer from here:

https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

@AkanchhaS8194121  - I'm glad somebody finally to responded to me...

 

I'm running Win 10 22H2, fully-up-to-date, but the Windows C Runtime you linked doesn't say it's for Win 10, so I didn't install it...

 

I tried to run the cleaner tool you linked but it said "...can't run on your PC"...??

 

Downloaded the Reader installer from the Enterprise link you posted for v2022.003.20282.  It started to run and gave this error which is same error mentioned in my OP:

Clicked Retry, same error. Clicked Ignore and same error again. So I gave up...

 

To be clear, this is a personal PC and I'm the only user. My account has full Administrator privileges.

 

This is totally absurd!

Have you tried clicking on "Ignore"? What happens when you click and proceed?
