User Error: Cannot find or create font 'ArielMT'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.

I have multiple users who are getting both of the following errors:

  • Cannot find or create font 'ArielMT'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.
  • A Drawing Error Occured

Attempted to do the following:

  • Repairing Adobe
  • Installing the missing font
  • Deleting preferences in AppData
  • Uninstalling/Reinstalling Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader is up to date. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I hope you are well, and thanks for reaching out. We’re sorry for the trouble you are having with the app.

     

    The error: “Cannot find or create the font ‘ArialMT’” (often followed by “A drawing error occurred”) appears when a PDF references a font that is not embedded, and Acrobat cannot reliably access or substitute it.

     

    Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: Version:  25.001.21223 Planned update. Feb 17, 2026. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

     

    If you are using Adobe Reader, install the official Acrobat Font Pack that matches your track/version, then restart Acrobat Reader: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/desktop/get-started/access-the-app/font-spelling-pack.html

     

    • Ensure fonts are embedded when PDFs are created
    • For AutoCAD or scanning workflows, enable “embed/capture fonts” during PDF creation
    • If fonts cannot be embedded, convert text to outlines or image‑based PDFs

     

    If the issue continues, please share a quick screen recording of the issue, a sample PDF file, the current version of the operating system installed, and the logs from the affected machines for further investigations. 

    To collect the logs, please refer to this article. First, enable the Log Collector tool and make sure to select all log options. Attempt to reproduce the issue, then save the logs along with the generated log ID. Please share these with us.
