What happened to the old (Mac version) free Reader?

I don’t like all this cloud stuff. I just want a reader that will open pdf files and let me do stuff like highlight passages.

Legend

"Cloud" in this sense is just a sexy marketing name. It isn't cloud software. I can see why, based on the name, you might not want it. I predict Adobe will come to regret this name.

I totally agree. A very unfortunate and confusing name... And on top of that there's the terrible renaming of Reader as "Acrobat Reader".

Reader DC does all of that. You can ignore the cloud features if you don't want to use them. They are not obligatory.
