Question

What's up with the unwanted software?

I just updated by Acrobat Reader DC and was "infected" with 2 pieces of software that I was not asked about, nor wanted.  The software was an Intel password "vault" (I think) and McAfee security package.  If this is a trend that will continue, I suspect that I will avoid updates in the future.  How DARE they!

This has been a source of contention for a long time. Most people get the option to opt out at the time of download (many just don't notice it) but some do not. Either way, the selection to download and install is opt-out rather than opt-in which is how it should be.

At any rate, Adobe has chosen to keep it that way. If you do not want to use their products anymore because of this, that is your choice and understandable.

It's been my experience that the option to opt-in or out is always offered during the installation process.  I'm vigilant during any update, including download and installation.  There was no option offered during install to opt-out, and the download option (if there) was well out of sight.  I will need to step up my vigilance, but remain disappointed in Adobe for hiding this unwanted software - and can't believe that I'm alone.

Yeah. I'm not sure what is happening there since I don't seem to experience it. I always see the option but I've seen screen shots from others who don't. I do agree that it isn't good practice and it should be changed. Most of us do but it falls on deaf ears. Sorry.
