Question

Why is the search box slow to appear and each character entered into search box takes 3 seconds to appear?

Using CRTL+F I bring up the search box.  It takes about 4 -5 seconds to appear.  Then I start typing into the search box.  Every character typed takes 2-4 seconds to appear.  My co-worker does not have this issue.  We are both running Windows 10 Pro.  I'm running Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 17.009.20044.

As far as trying to resolve, I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and then I ran the AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2015 tool and rebooted.  After re-reinstalling Reader I found the issue still existed.  Thanks for any ideas or help you have.

Edit - Preferences - Search - uncheck 'Enable Fast Find'.

If you 'Enable Fast Find' it will be slow, if you uncheck 'Enable Fast Find', it will be fast.

    Standard Adobe stuff apparently.

This is a late responise, but here goes.  When you hit Ctrl+F, click the gear in the search box and turn off Cloud-powered search. That seems to make it run normally.

Hi ginnstats, just wanted to let you know I literally logged in on this site for the first time ever to say thanks for posting this, because it worked immediately! Really appreciate having an answer here rather than just having a 5-year old question with no final answer. Thanks again!

    Hi kennethc97636193,

As per the description, when searching for text using Ctrl+F, search box takes about 4-5 seconds to appear as well as the characters you type takes time to appear in the search box?

Check the CPU usage when Reader is running by right-clicking the Taskbar>Task Manager.

Also, try running Reader in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and see if that works.

    Launch Reader's shortcut>right-click>Properties>Compatibility tab.

Check the box Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 7>click Apply>OK

    Relaunch Reader and try again.

Have you tried opening other files, does this happen with other files as well?

    Thanks,

    Shivam

    Hi Shivam,

Thank you very much for your reply.

    >Check the CPU usage when Reader is running by right-clicking the Taskbar>Task Manager.

CPU is always 0-5%. Other aspects of Acrobat including the actual searching through the document(s) is very fast. Only search boxes (both the small one and the side panel Advanced search) are slow to appear and to type in.

    >Also, try running Reader in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and see if that works.

I tried. Sorry to report it did not help.

    >Have you tried opening other files, does this happen with other files as well?

If you mean for example opening a Word document with MS Word, etc., then yes and they do not exhibit this slow typing in a search box issue.

    Kind regards,

    Kenneth
