i see that i have Acrobat Reader DC. Maybe i should be having Adobe Pro 11.

what is the difference between the 2 products?

Reader DC is a PDF viewer.

To Edit/Create PDF files you will require Acrobat applications, you can download it form this link Download Adobe Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | DC, XI, X.

Reader is a free application that can only view PDF files. Acrobat is not free, but it can create and edit them, not just view.
