Why did Adobe Color change?

Reposting this from my CC Desktop feature request. Please vote if you feel the same!

In the past few days, Adobe Color (formerly Kuler) at color.adobe.com has disappeared and been replaced with something that lacks the flexibility and usefulness of the previous interface. I’m hereby begging you to bring the previous interface back, in its entirety.

I’ve been a paying subscriber to Adobe CC and an instructor of Adobe CC apps for many years, and while I haven’t been happy with the recent price increases, my overall satisfaction with the service and the useful generative AI features in Photoshop have been enough to offset the pain of paying more every month. However, Adobe Color was one of the most useful creative tools of its kind available anywhere, and the fact that it integrated with all my apps was a huge bonus. Why on earth would I want to be forced into Adobe Express while I’m trying to fine-tune and experiment with a complex color scheme? I’m really struggling to understand the purpose of this downgrade.

I have been using adobe color for 4+ years. The 2026 update is absolutely terrible. Takes forever to pull hex codes. Limited to 5 colors in the pallet... What were you thinking?

We continue to support up to 10 colors in palettes. You can mouse over the left or right edges of any swatch in order to add a color.

Add a color by hovering over left/right of swatch

We’d definitely love to learn more about the frustrations around copying hex codes. Previously, users hovered over the hex to copy (images attached).

Now, we have a visual copy icon in the swatch for copy that triggers a success toast instead.

We also offer a palette download option for jpg and ase (for CC Libraries). Are there other ways you copy or transfer hex codes? We’d love to connect either over email or live to learn more about your workflows!

I absolutely hate the new change! It completely interrupts my work flow. I don’t want to add extra steps to find my hex numbers! I might as well use Canva, now that Adobe’s tried to simplify it for mobile users! I want my old Colors back! I used to be able to design websites, flyers, ads, webinars, etc. in no time at all because I could just upload a pic and get my colors, save it to a library, and go back to it, quickly, any time I needed to get the hex numbers again. Now, it’s step after step, after step. I screenshot my colors with the hex numbers now, so that I can copy and paste them to the numerous apps I use for a campaign. Please, please, please bring back Adobe Colors!

BRING BACK ADOBE COLOR! I can find my color libraries, but if I need to access HEX, CMYK, RGB codes or edit them…good freaking luck! This is madness. Adobe Color was a great tool. Why did it Adobe need to ruin it by putting it under Express?!

I’ve been a long-time user of Adobe Color, going back to its days as Kuler. I thought it was a great tool, very flexible and powerful. I wanted to share that sentiment in a blog post that I’m writing about web design, highlighting its WCAG tool for checking contrast.

Today, I discovered the strange updates made to this once terrific tool. The UI is horribly unprofessional. Everything is now segmented into small sections of non-integrated information. Sure, I can edit my palettes, but why do I have to deal with so many pop-up windows? Sure, I can check the contrast on colors I’m exploring, but what about on the palettes I’ve already built?

The new “Express” color tool placed a head-scratching set of obstacles into my workflow, which came to a screeching halt. What a huge disappointment. I’ll probably go elsewhere to build palettes, test WCAG contast, and enjoy the design process.

This update seems as though it is conceived to be as counterintuitive as possible. Every change or update previous to this required little to no learning curve. This one places obstacles and buttons in between me and my workflow, like having to climb into a machine to operate a remote control arm to make a sandwich. Good lord, adobe is really trying to drive away the last of their users into other apps. You will not be “the industry standard” much longer.

Whatever the priority/intent/thinking was behind this ill-conceived change by Adobe, we the community, were not a factor. Someone in the community should build what we have lost from scratch… since what we need seems to no longer be important to Adobe.
