Facing difficulty loading PDF EMBED API document cloud resources

Hi Team,

We are using the PDF Embed API to render PDF documents in our production application.

Recently we are facing issues in accessing https://documentcloud.adobe.com/view-sdk/viewer.js and not able to load the PDF resources.

Some of our users from India(APAC Region) are facing the issue intermitently.

Please let us know a solution which we can try to avoid this issue.

Thank you

Hi Team,

We are seeing Edge and Chrome Browser will not support third party cookies very soon.

Link: https://developers.google.com/privacy-sandbox/3pcd

Chrome will completely get rid of allowing third-party cookies by Q3 2024. Its already started in a phased manner.

Recently few of our end users reported that they are not able to render PDF contents.

As you are aware that we are using PDF Embed API (PDF Viewer) from Adobe to view pdf files.

Is there a plan to release another version of the same PDF Embed API (https://developer.adobe.com/document-services/docs/overview/pdf-embed-api/) which does not use a cookie to support Chrome Browser.

We need your valuable support to make sure our users are unaffected.

This was fixed back in October. If you aren't seeing that, let me know. I disabled third party cookies in Chrome while in incognito mode and had no trouble opening our playground - https://documentservices.adobe.com/view-sdk-demo/index.html#/view/FULL_WINDOW/Bodea%20Brochure.pdf

Hi @Raymond Camden

Thank you for the reply.

We are your strategic partner. We use the Adobe PDF Embed API in our production environment to load PDF files in browsers inside our application as we liked the viewing capability of this tool. We are currently asking thousands of our end users to disable third party cookies to load PDF files in Chrome through Adobe PDF embed API. This is a work around which we have for now. As this will expand to 100% of user base by third quarter we needed your valuable support.

We feel that this is not a normal flow for thousands of subscribed users of an application to do the settings manually at browser level.

Do you have a plan to release another version without the cookies ingested for Adobe PDF Embed API. Or as you mentioned you released a fix in October, will that solve the third party cookie issue for our end users where they don't have to disable thirdparty cookies manually or go to incognito mode to use the app. In case Adobe has fixed this, can you help me to get a sample implementation.

I tried the playground shared by you. And here is a sample application on codepen https://codepen.io/satya4satyanm/pen/dyLoJWg
This is able to load the PDF. But I see there are cookies ingested by Adobe into cdpn.io which is the domain used to create the Adobe client id for PDF embed api. I think this is where we will face issue as for cdpn.io the Adobe cookies are third party coockies.

We will be happy to use a licensed version which solves the cookie issue for our end users if there is one.

Team, one more finding is that in microsoft edge browser, if the sessionStorage is disabled due to some security concerns, the pdf files are not rendered.

Is there anything alternative we can do to over ride this situation and render the PDF files.

Thank you in advance for your support

We do not have a fix for this yet.

Hi Team,

Continuing on the above issue, it seems that Microsoft Edge considers the "key value" pair needed in the browser session storage for Adobe Document Cloud as a "Tracking" cookie and hence blocks it. And the user has to manually add to the "Exception" list to make it work ? Is this expected as this may potentially block Adobe users worldwide ? Please advise on the best way to tackle this scenario. Thanks for your help (Screenshot below)

Sure we will use this and see for few days.

Please allow us a week or two to report any issues.

Thank you
