When I copy the selected text, the spaces between the words are discarded and all the letters are joined together, like this:

Therecentemergenceofnoveldata-independentacquisition techniques(DIA),suchasSWATH,11MSe,12pSMART,13and WiSIM,13presentsachallengetoinvestigatorstryingtodesign optimalacquisitionstrategiesandprocessingalgorithms

Can you share the PDF where you see this happening? Also your browser and OS.

I've been able to recreate this in Embed using your PDF. This is what's happening, broadly. The PDF is using absolutely positioned text for layou. So instead of it being: "Raymond(space)Camden", it's "Raymond" at position X,Y and "Camden" at X+a bit, Y.

Now Acrobat, the desktop client, is doing a bit of work to make selection work correctly, and it's valid to ask Embed to try to do that as well, but ultimately, it's the PDF in this case.

(Thanks to my coworker Joel Geraci for figuring this out.)
