Acrobat Reader Extension : Problem with Content-Disposition Headers and filename UTF8

Links having Content-Disposition headers with filename and filename* utf8 when downloaded through acrobat extension (v 26.8.1.6, Chrome and Edge), the filename* utf8 seems to be ignored; only ascii filename is used.
This does not happen with browser default pdf reader.
Is this a know/recent issue ?

Hello,

I will not be able to share the HAR logs with you, as it contains sensitive information about our internal servers.

Can you still investigate with your dev team as why filename* is not taken into account and only filename is ?

Hi natural_musiciana96e,

Please allow us some time to check this behaviour with our team. We will let you know once we get any information from them.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Hi @natural_musiciana96e ,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for the detailed write-up.

I wasn't able to find an existing confirmed bug report matching this exact behavior (filename* UTF-8 being dropped in favor of the ASCII fallback), so this looks like it hasn't been logged yet, or hasn't surfaced widely. A couple of things worth checking before filing it, if you haven't already:

  • Does the same thing happen on the latest extension build, or only on 26.8.1.6 specifically? (There's at least one other recent regression reported in 26.8.1.4 involving unexpected request behavior, so it's worth ruling out whether this is version-specific.)

  • Does disabling and re-enabling the extension change anything, just to rule out a stale install?

Since this is reproducible and version-specific behavior rather than a config issue on your end, please share a small video recording of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs along with the HAR logs for further investigation by our development team.

Hello Amal,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

- It happens on 26.8.1.6 (is it the latest one ?) and on the previous one. We didn’t test it prior to that.
- Disbaling and re-enabling doesn’t change anything.

I will provide a few screenshots with an example.

Here are the headers of one of our link. It’s from our Japanese website. You can see here the filename and the filename UTF8 values.

When opened and downloaded with the default Chrome PDF reader, the UTF8 filename is used

When opened and downloaded with the Adobe browser extension, the ascii filename is used.

Note that we are using french and english systems/os when conducting our tests.

The HAR file is more than 50MB and I can not join it to this reply; are there other ways for me to transfer it to your teams ?
