Question

Adobe Acrobat Online PDFs now asking to be edited on the desktop version

Hello,

We use lots of Chromebooks at workplace. Our employees have them saved in Google Drive and open them with the Adobe Actobat web extension to edit the PDFs. The ones that could be edited in the past online are now having a red pop up message saying "This form contains fields that you can only fill in using the Acrobat desktop app.". Is there anyway around this so the PDFs can still be edited online?

Thanks!

Hi default282806827056g3,

Thank you for reaching out.

We have checked the screenshot, and it seems that there are some form fields have been added to the PDF form.

It will need the desktop version of the application to get this filled.

Would you mind sharing any sample PDF so we can check and confirm?

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Hello,

I attached a copy of a PDF we've been having issues with.

So our employees are using Chromebooks to edit the PDFs and they can only be edited using the web extension version of Adobe in the web browser Google Chrome since they cant download the desktop verison of Adobe on Chromebooks. We did confirm these forms can be edited using the desktop version of Adobe on a normal laptop but thats not an option with the Chromebooks.

These forms did work with Google Chromes Web Extension of Adobe on the Chromebooks for the last few years but just recently stopped. Within the last month or two now the PDFs can't be edited online and we get the "This form contains fields that you can only fill in using the Acrobat desktop app.". We did reach out to the company who makes these PDFs and they reported no changes were made on their end that would prevent us from editing these online. Did Adobe push out some sort of update thats preventing this?

Thanks!

Hi default282806827056g3,

Thank you for sharing the file.

We did check the file, and it does contain the form fields that can be filled on desktop applications only.

As the forms were fillable online previously, it seems that previously the form fields were not used on the forms. So, the forms were filled using the Fill & Sign tool.

In this case, I suggest checking with the PDF creator to see if they have made the changes. We have also checked that the document is secured.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
