Adobe pdf won't print in black and white only, on HP Officejet Pro 8610

I'm on a Mac, using Yosemite and at the same time as I upgraded to Yosemite, I switched from HP Officejet Pro 8600 to 8610.
Ever since I made those switches, I can't get the Officejet to print Adobe Reader documents using only the black cartridge. All other apps print in black only, no problem.

FYI: I have no choice but to use Adobe Reader for a particular report, as it won't open in Preview. So I have to solve this issue because it's wasting color ink.

HP said it was an Apple issue, because all other apps print in black and white, no problem.

When I called Apple, they said to go to Adobe, since there aren't any settings that can be changed on my iMac computer.

Does anybody know how to solve this issue?

    Hi joanh2,

Have you tried selecting Print in Grayscale (Black and White) in the Print dialog box in Reader? I've found a lot of similar complaints online (HP Officejet Pro 8600 - Now won't print in Black Ink Only! - Page 5 - HP Support Forum - 2359201), and it looks like everything points back to this being an HP issue. I did find this YouTube video, which might help some: HOWTO: HP Officejet Pro 8600 - Black Ink Only - YouTube

You can also try selecting Print as Image in the Advanced Print Settings in Reader.

    Best,

    Sara
