After converting PDF to Excel the file has many merged fields

I'm trying to convert bank statement PDFs into Excel so I can easily sort by transaction, date, company, etc. But the columns come out in a variety of either single cells with individual transactions or a single cell containing many different transactions. I have no clue how to get this into a manageable form.
