can't combine encrypted password Amex statements

Sooo, i downloaded 11 monthly statements from my bank account thru my bank's website to my computer and I was able to easily combine all the files into 1 document.

Then, I went into Amex site, downloaded 11 motnhly statements into my computer. So far so good. But i see that in the file it says Security: Password Encrypted. Even though I need no password to open it in my computer, I just, of course, needed a password to login into my Amex account to download the files. So when i try to convert in the same way i did with my bank, it says: "Page extraction is not allowed in the source PDF documents."
So, I went I downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro in my laptop and tried the same thing. Now at least it gives me the option to put a password. It says: "xyz.pdf" is protected. Please enter a Permission Password. If you do not have the password , please contact the author of the document." Sooo, i tried putting the same Amex login passoword, not success. I put my laptop password, no sucess. What password is that? I got it from my own Amex account, downloaded to my own coputer. Did Amex created a password? Do I need to contact Amex? THat doesn't seem right.

I've read many discussions here with some variation of this issue and I couldn't find a decent answer. Mostly it's Adobe's staff asking them to share the documents with them so they can troubleshoot. Thank you but no, I own't send you my Amex statements. Does anyone know an easy way to figure this out so I can combine all the monthly statements into one document?

Lately my fix of a workflow above still works, BUT all files downloaded for my AMEX credit cards crash seconds or mintues after opening. Can't reconcile the downlaoded statement files they crash so quick. Tried redownlaoding. . . same thing. Even moving the pages to a new pdf file that I create not working. Anyone else?? ONLY happening on AMEX pdf files. Using version below.

i've had similar issues and got around it by running a workflow on pdf files from finder. Download the file and right click on it and the QUICK ACTIONS menu will list the workflow (I call it ADD PW). It allows you to put your own password in the work flow, i use the same for all my bills credit cards etc. You need to REVEAL in finder at the end of the workflow as the resulting encrypted file gets buried somewhere deep in the library. Takes this revealed file and MOVE it to the folder the unencrypted file came from (the original is still there) and REPLACE it.

This seems to take out most security items in downloaded files allowing you highlight, edit make notes, combine files , pages etc, probably even editing them. If you don't want a password on the file after all your editing, 'remove security' inside Acrobat.

Just print your PDFs to copies. They combine sans problems after that!

I may be late to the party but if you export to word then save as a PDF it removes the AMEX password.

Amex set a password, specifically to stop editing, combining etc. They will not give it to you. Their staff will know nothing of this; it's something done by the technical department, probably the actual password is unknown/random.
